Yesterday, a boy asked Darryl to pull down his pants in the playroom at ChickFilA. The boy was 5 and Darryl is 4. Darryl looks up to the boy. Darryl looks up to all boys older than himself. Every male between the ages of 5 and 21 are cool. I am not.
Darryl pleaded with the boy saying that he was going to get in trouble. The boy persisted. Darryl pulled them down, along with another girl.
His mother wasn't very happy. I am sad. I want my son to be brave and trying to please everyone at all costs. My son is a sweet kid. That is his greatest strength and weakness. Around good kids, he is great. Among bad kids, he is a willing follower.
I need to instill in him a sense of self worth. If he feels its wrong. Walk away. Recognize who is your friend. Friends don't make friends do things that will hurt them.
His mother has sworn that he will never play with that child again. This is painful for her because the boy's mother is a good friend. That family has issues. We need to isolate ourselves from them.
